Leonel afirma que Abinader ha tenido un mal inicio de su segundo mandato
New York, USA.- Former President of the Dominican Republic and leader of the Force of the People Party (FP), Leonel Fernández, has sharply criticized the administration of President Luis Abinader during a political meeting in New York.
Fernández claimed that the government has begun its second term “poorly” and is “failing in every aspect,” announcing the creation of a “shadow government” to monitor and report the current administration’s failings.
“We are getting ready to have a shadow government in education, health, in every area. We will be pointing out the flaws of this government, who has started its second term poorly and is failing in every aspect,” said Fernández.
Highlighting the government’s missteps, Fernández took the proposed constitutional reform as an example, describing it as unnecessary and lacking public support. “It’s a reform without necessity; I call it a reform out of stubbornness, and as such, it will not be successful nor have the legitimacy of the reform we achieved in 2010,” he emphasized.
Regarding the shadow government, Fernández explained that it would be made up of a team of experts and leaders from the opposition to evaluate the government’s policies and propose alternatives. According to the former president, this initiative is crucial for democracy as it ensures continuous scrutiny of the government’s actions and offers solutions to the country’s problems, in contrast to what he considers improvisations by the Abinader government.
He mentioned that the shadow government is a space for oversight and denunciation but also for proposal. It is a necessary counterbalance to ensure that public policies are carried out seriously and for the benefit of the Dominican people.
During the event, Fernández also highlighted the importance of FP leaders abroad actively participating in the thematic tables of the 2nd National Congress and 1st Ordinary Congress, Dr. Franklin Almeyda Rancier.
The leader of the main opposition party explained that the thematic tables would serve as a crucial platform for developing proposals in various areas, aiming to better connect with society. “The thematic tables are the essence of our Congress and reflect our commitment to inclusive participation and building a national project with the people,” he stressed.
Fernández urged all members of the Force of the People to get involved in this process, stating that their participation is key to defining the political and strategic lines of the party, that aspires
