Tesla se desploma un 8,78 % en Wall Street el día después de que Musk presentara el Cybercab
New York.- Tesla’s shares plummeted by 8.78% this Friday on Wall Street, following Elon Musk’s unveiling of a van-style robotaxi range and autonomous vehicles for police departments, which failed to impress attendees and subsequently investors, due to the lack of new regulatory details for their use.
Prior to the market opening, Tesla’s stock fell nearly 6%, dropping to a price of 224.80 dollars per share.
According to IG analyst Sergio Ávila, despite the excitement around the announcement, many experts believe that the development of robotaxis could take years, mainly because of regulatory challenges and the need to ensure safety under adverse conditions, such as bad weather or complex traffic situations.
He mentioned that while Musk has claimed that autonomous vehicles will be far safer than those driven by humans, he did not provide specific details on how Tesla plans to overcome the technological and regulatory hurdles to bring these vehicles to market.
In his view, one of the most fascinating aspects of the presentation was Musk’s statement that the Cybercab would rely on artificial intelligence technology and cameras instead of lidar sensors, which are commonly used by competitors. This approach, he emphasized, “could introduce technical challenges, but also help keep costs lower for Tesla”.
The analyst noted that despite the enthusiasm for Tesla’s new announcements, some investors voiced “their disappointment over the lack of clear timelines for the deployment of these autonomous vehicles, leaving uncertainty about the future of these innovations in the competitive automotive market.”
Features of the Cybercab
In the presentation, Musk claimed that the Cybercab will revolutionize passenger transportation since its cost per kilometer will be 20 cents, a fifth of that of a public bus.
“It’s going to be incredible,” said the entrepreneur, who arrived at the vehicle’s presentation as a passenger of a Cybercab, navigating without a driver through the streets of the Warner Bros. studios in Los Angeles.
Musk described the vehicle as a stylish, silver, two-door car that charges its batteries via induction rather than using a plug, and lacks both a steering wheel and acceleration or brake pedals.
The driverless taxi from his automotive company, the Cybercab, is slated to begin production in 2026, at a cost of less than 20,000 dollars.
